The second phase of the European Union-backed improvement scheme for Bargoed town centre has begun.

Work on Upper High Street is nearing completion and is continuing along the main High Street.

The major regeneration project is designed to make Bargoed a key shopping destination in the South Wales Valleys.

Cllr Ron Davies, cabinet member for regeneration said: “We are working closely with local traders and are very keen to ensure that everyone knows that the town centre remains fully open for business. We recognise that the works are causing some disruption, but I’m sure the town can see that the long term benefits will outweigh any short term inconvenience.”

Alun Griffiths Contractors are delivering the scheme and have set up an Information Centre in the Young at Heart building on the High Street.

Community Liaison Officer John Coles is available every Tuesday and Thursday to answer any queries or discuss the detailed proposals with local residents and businesses

The £8M Bargoed Town Centre Regeneration project is being delivered with funding from the EU’s Convergence European Regional Development Fund, and through the Welsh Government’s Targeted Match Funding and Heads of the Valleys Programme.
