Police in Caerphilly are about to launch a new recruitment drive to search for 20 teenage, volunteer police cadets.

Over the next three weeks Caerphilly Local Policing Unit is asking students aged between 16 and 17-years-old to apply to become a volunteer police cadet.

The cadets will meet at least once a week to take part in different activities and will have their own uniform, attend workshops and talks to understand the work of the police. They will also be taking part in road safety initiatives and crime prevention patrols.

Inspector Kevin Childs said: “This is a new and exciting initiative for Caerphilly as well as the potential new police cadets. If you are aged between 16 and 17, interested in becoming a better citizen, developing new skills, meeting new people and having something different to add to your CV – then this is definitely for you.

“You don’t have to want to become a police officer, to take part – it’s all about broadening your horizons and trying something a bit different. Caerphilly are looking forward to the new cadets, they will be a great asset to our police force.”

For more information please visit www.gwent.police.uk/cadets email ystradmynach@gwent.pnn.police.uk or call 01443 865 595.

Candidates can collect an application form from any of the following police stations: Bargoed, Bedwas, Blackwood, Caerphilly, Rhymney, Risca and Ystrad Mynach.
