Clocks go forward by an hour on Sunday

It’s that time of year again when we all completely forget about the clocks going forward and end up being late by an hour if we’re working in Sunday.

British Summer Time (BST) officially begins at 1am (GMT) on Sunday and we unfortunately lose an hour’s sleep.

Electricity company Swalec estimates that an average four person household will have at least 20 clocks and watches in need of altering.

While changing the clocks twice a year may seem like an unnecessary chore, this small modification can make a big difference to your seasonal energy bill.

Swalec’s energy efficiency manager Andrew Lloyd, explained: “When we switch to BST the sun ‘sets’ later and so reduces the period between sunset and bedtime, trimming one hour out of the day where energy is being consumed in the home.”

He added: “People also use less electricity because they are in their homes for fewer hours during the longer days and tend to plan outdoor activities in the extra daylight hours.”
