Fines for litter and dog-fouling hit three figures in Caerphilly County Borough

News | Richard Gurner | Published: 13:00, Tuesday March 22nd, 2011.

More than 100 people were fined for littering or dog fouling in Caerphilly last year.

County Borough Council staff handed out the joint-second-highest number of dog-fouling penalties in Wales, behind Wrexham and level with Gwynedd.

In total 62 people were handed “fixed penalty notices” for dog-fouling, and 39 for littering, in the county borough between April 2009 and March 2010.

The penalties are set at £75, dropping to £50 if they are paid within a fortnight, with the money raised going to the council.

Of those fined, 100% either paid up or faced prosecution.

The figures are due to be considered by Caerphilly County Borough Council’s Living Environment Scrutiny Committee, which aims to “improve the look and feel of our streets”, at a meeting at Penallta House, Ystrad Mynach, at 5pm today.

Wow! In 11 months CCBC fined 39 individuals for litter offences. Impressive?

Surely this is a premature April Fools press release.

How much did CCBC pay to fine just 39 litter louts?

Give any decently run Company a chance to sort this out and enough income could be raised each year to pay the salary for a nurse or a school teacher.

The school teacher would say to CCBC (as would we all) 'Could do better'.

The nurse would say to CCBC 'You should take the medicine but you aren't willing to listen'.
