A-level students in Caerphilly county borough have been praised for their hard work after pass rates hit record levels.

Caerphilly students had an overall pass rate of 97.7% (Grades A – E), across all examination boards, surpassing the Welsh average of 97.6%.

For WJEC examinations, the percentage of higher grades awarded to Caerphilly students (Grades A-C) has increased to the highest ever level of 79.1%. More than half of the grades awarded to Caerphilly students were at grade A or B.

Sandra Aspinall, Caerphilly County Borough Council’s director of education and leisure said: “These results are testimony to the dedication and ability of the young people of Caerphilly county borough. They also reflect the quality of teaching provided within our schools, and the commitment of our teachers to helping our students achieve their full potential.”

Councillor Phil Bevan, cabinet Member for education, said: “The authority is extremely pleased with these outstanding set of results. Our students have done an excellent job and are a credit to themselves, their families and their schools.

“We must also congratulate the teachers of Caerphilly County Borough Council, whose hard work and dedication has made these superb results possible.”
