Gwent Police Authority, the body in charge of how policing is run in the area, is looking for a new member.
The new Independent Member appointment is for a term of two-and-a-half years and will start in August 2010.
They will work alongside eight other independent members and nine councillors who are responsible for police services in Gwent.
Successful applicants – who must be aged 18 or over, and have lived or worked in the Gwent Police Authority area for at least 12 months – can expect to spend a minimum of 15 hours a week in the police authority role in exchange for an allowance and expenses.
The authority is particularly keen to encourage applications from women.
Gwent Police Authority Chair, Mrs Cilla Davies, said: “Police authorities have an increasingly important role to play in holding the police to account on behalf of local people, and this role will give the successful applicant the chance to do just that.
“Candidates should have an interest in local and national developments in policing, an eagerness to participate in public consultation, good communication skills and a knowledge of diversity issues.”
