Caerphilly Castle Fireworks 2011

More than 20,000 people attended the fireworks display at Caerphilly Castle on Saturday.

Set against the back drop of Caerphilly Castle the free event raised thousands of pounds for local charity.

This year the event is raised money for St Davids Hospice and the Caerphilly Lions Club.

The annual fireworks display is organised annually by Caerphilly Town Council with support from Aber Valley; Bedwas, Trethomas and Machen; Llanbradach and Pwllypant; Penyrheol, Trecenydd and Energlyn and Van Community Councils.

Having attended almost all of the Caerphilly fireworks displays for the last 20 years, without doubt 2011 has been the best by far. This year the fireworks seemed better, went on longer, flew higher and there seemed far more in the air at any one time. The sound system delivered a much better sound with far less distortion than usual and the choice of music, in my opinion, was getting closer to perfection.

The biggest disappointment however is that the donations collected always appear so meagre compared to the attendance. We sent our son out with a handful of change to put it in a bucket and he returned with a handful of change being unable to find a suitable bucket.

Could not Caerphilly Town Council maybe set up a justgiving page or some other published mechanism whereby those of us who wish to contribute can easily do so?

If I can pay a London congestion charge using my mobile phone isn’t there a way to similarly pay for my Caerphilly fireworks? Just a thought.

Thanks for your comments and support Mr Finch. You are right the collection is a major problem when we expect the recipient charities to get people out to collect they sometimes do not organise the volunteers necessary for this event. A giving page or as you say mobile upload would be a far better way for pubilc to give. Should you feel inclined to forward a contrtibution to the Caerffili Town Council, The Twyn Community Centre, Caerffili CF83 1JL then this will still go towards the charities chosen for the event.

For next year we will offer a choice I am sure, so if you want to collect on the night then please let us know and it can be arranged.
