Caerphilly Council to review childcare in county borough

News | Richard Gurner | Published: 07:01, Wednesday June 2nd, 2010.

Caerphilly County Borough Council is to carry out a major survey into the availability of childcare in the area.

The council is keen to hear from as many people as possible to build up a picture of how easy or difficult it is for parents to arrange cover while they work.

The local authority is also keen to hear from child carers for their opinions as well.

Councillor Phil Bevan, cabinet member for education and leisure, said: “This is your chance to help us shape the future of childcare for your family.

“Look out for the questionnaire or go online and have your say.”

Special questionnaires will be distributed across the county borough during June and everyone is encouraged to provide feedback to the council on this important matter.

All respondents will be automatically entered into a prize draw to win £100 worth of High Street vouchers.

The last Childcare Sufficiency Assessment, carried out in 2007, had more than 2,400 people returning a completed questionnaire.

The information helped shape childcare services and as a result a further 800 childcare places were established within the county borough.

Consultation will begin after half-term when questionnaires will arrive through the post .

Alternatively the questionnaire can be filled out at www.caerphilly.gov.uk/earlyyears
