Newbridge boxing trainer Enzo Calzaghe – father of former world champ Joe – has been presented with his MBE.

The Italian national was unable to collect his honour from Buckingham Palace so was awarded the MBE at Caerphilly County Borough Council’s Penallta House headquarters in Ystrad Mynach.

He said: “I had to stop the tears there because being honoured by Her Majesty the Queen is something you don’t expect every day of the week.

“It’s amazing and I’m lost for words.”

His son, an undefeated world champion, said: “It’s great to see my dad get recognition and have the honour of the MBE – it’s fantastic.”
