Speeding New Tredegar drivers caught by police

News | Richard Gurner | Published: 14:02, Tuesday December 6th, 2011.

Drivers speeding through New Tredegar at over 50mph were caught out by police during a recent operation.

Following recent reports of motorists ignoring the law by residents, police took to Pleasant View, in Tirphil, to catch speeding.

Speed checks on this road over the 3 days identified up to 15 speeding vehicles in excess of 50mph on a 30mph road – with the main offenders being large vans and articulated lorries.

New Tredegar PCSO, Jonathan Whittaker said: “Our priority as a partnership is to reduce casualties, educate motorists and to influence driver behaviour. We will continue to tackle the issue of speed, driver education and to reduce casualties on the roads.

“These checks are being organised as a direct result of the concerns expressed at recent police surgeries – we hope that this reassures local residents that that we are listening and taking action. We are continuing to tackle speeding and feedback the results to residents at the forthcoming Rhymney PACT meetings in January 2012.”
