Caerphilly County Borough Council has announced it has prevented £6.4million being paid out in compensation to bogus accident claims.
The figure, which stretches over the last three years, covers accidents which never took place and fake or exaggerated injuries.
The council’s Insurance Department investigates all suspicious cases and uses private detective surveillance and other methods to get to the bottom of suspect cases.
Cllr Colin Mann, deputy leader of the council, said: “We want to send out a clear message that we will not tolerate the actions of a minority of inconsiderate people who try to obtain money through fraud. We will continue with our efforts and take all necessary steps to protect the public purse.”
The council, which has estimated that 60% of all claims are fraudulent, has not revealed how much it has paid out over the last three years.
These Figures show that Caerphilly Council paid out over £3.6 million pounds, in the last three years, of ratepayers money, to legitimate claims made against it, i.e. in incidents when the Council were at fault. That appears to be an appalling record of the worst kind of incidents of negligence, bad management, or dilatory governance and due care on the part of those in control of Caerphilly County Borough Council.
Can this surly be correct? or, are the figures incorrect and someone has made yet another `mistake`? to add to all the above.
