Caerphilly-based Draig Business Services Group has agreed to officially sponsor Pontypridd-based athlete Joe Thomas who will run in next month’s Commonwealth Games in Delhi.

Joe, 22, of The Common, Pontypridd, has been selected to run in the 800m and 4 x 100m relay events in the Games in India.

He attended Coedpenmaen Primary School and then Coedylan Comprehensive, now Pontypridd High School.

Joe, who is currently studying for a sports coaching degree at UWIC in Cardiff, represented his district at junior rugby and also his local team up to the age of 15.

Ross Porter, Managing Director of Draig Business Services Group, said: “I’m a very keen sports fan and, I believe, it is important to nurture top local talent and that is why agreed to sponsor Joe.

“As a business we believe it is important to play our full part in the community in all its aspects. We wish Joe and the rest of the Welsh team success at the Commonwealth Games. Hopefully, they will bring home a bucketful of medals to Wales.”
