Police in Rhymney warn motorists on illegal parking

News | Richard Gurner | Published: 20:30, Sunday September 26th, 2010.

Police in Rhymney have said they are to clamp down on illegal parking over the next few weeks following concerns from local residents.

Motorists are parking on double yellow lines along High Street in Rhymney to visit local shops and banks.

Officers will be distributing leaflets to local shops and residents warning they will be issuing fines.

Anyone found to be committing parking offences may receive a £30 Fixed Penalty Notice.

Matthew Morris, the Police Community Support Officer for the Moriah Ward, said: “Parking on double yellow lines is illegal and causes an obstruction and an unnecessary risk to other motorists and pedestrians.

“There are free car parking spaces along High Street which motorists should be using when leaving their vehicles. Over the next couple of weeks, we will be educating drivers about where it is illegal to park, and issuing Fixed Penalty Notices to motorists who are breaking the law.”
