Newbridge-based Axiom Manufacturing Services has been commended for its commitment to green manufacturing at a leading UK industry awards ceremony.
The E-Legacy Awards, run by trade magazine Electronics Product Design, recognises excellence within the UK electronics and manufacturing sectors, covering categories from medical advances to investment in education and training. The awards are judged by respected industry professionals.
Axiom won the green manufacturing category and was commended for its forward thinking approach on environmental issues. The judges felt that Axiom had adopted an overall stance on environmental responsibilities.
The E-Legacy Awards were looking for UK manufacturers that had altered their facilities to achieve environmental goals or to demonstrate changes made to the overall manufacturing process to achieve long-term sustainability.
David Davies, managing director of Axiom, said: “Recent studies show manufacturing in Wales has come through the recession and is currently on an upward trend.
“Awards like this demonstrate that Welsh manufacturers are at the forefront of the industry with innovative thinking. We were early adopters of environmental procedures and have tried to make our supply chain as sustainable as possible.
“Through investing early we are reaping the benefits today with 60% of our customers opting for recyclable packaging, this gives us a definite competitive advantage.
“Last year we recycled more than 10 tonnes of cardboard and over 2,000kg of solder dross. This reduced our carbon emissions by 40% and we are now making a £12,000 saving every quarter from recycling paper, cardboard, scrap PCBs and solder dross.”
