Christmas shoppers in town centres across Caerphily County Borough will be able to enjoy free parking.

Caerphilly County Borough Council’s cabinet has agreed to the introduction of two hour free parking in all pay and display car parks for the fortnight in the run up to Christmas.

Councillor Ron Davies, cabinet member for regeneration, said: “This decision will bring lots of festive cheer to shoppers and businesses alike across the whole county borough.

“We acknowledge the pressures facing traders at the moment and our town centres need all the help they can, so we are delighted to be able to give the local economy a boost in the critical pre-Christmas shopping period.

“Hopefully this incentive will lead to more people shopping within the county borough, supporting local firms and enjoying the many attractions our town centres have to offer.”

The free parking at pay and display car parks will begin on Tuesday December 14 and end on Thursday December 28.

Any motorists wishing to stay for longer than two hours will have to pay the normal tariff.

Erm, yes, shame that they're also charging for park and ride at railway stations though isn't it? Taking with one hand and giving with the other…

and shame they don't do something about the fines applied by the private parking company operating at Blackwood.
