Residents wanting to get rid of their old computer equipment and mobile phones will be able to donate them as part of an ‘IT Amnesty’.
The scheme will be held at eight collection points in Caerphilly County Borough on specific days between January 13 and January 27.
Local residents will be able to donate any unwanted IT equipment at the collection points which will be recycled for use in the community.
The campaign is being run by the local Come Surf With Me project, with support from Caerphilly County Borough Council, Partners IT, Communities 2.0 and the Get IT Together project.
Matthew Lloyd, the Communities 2.0 Regional Community Broker for Caerphilly, said: “Many of us will have some old equipment such as a laptop, games console or computer that is gathering dust in the house, just waiting to be taken to the tip.
“This IT Amnesty aims to collect up any unwanted equipment, which is preferably still in working order, and recycle it back into communities around Caerphilly. Many local residents are still not online and don’t have access to the very equipment we hope to collect.
“Anything that we do collect will be donated to people who don’t currently have the means to make the most of our digital world.”
The Get IT Together project is offering a £5 Amazon voucher for each person making a donation to the IT Amnesty.
