Residents can now pay their council tax via a direct debit set up over the phone.
The new paperless system means residents can call Caerphilly County Borough Council to set up the direct debit.
Cllr Colin Mann, deputy leader of the council and cabinet member for finance, resources and sustainability, said: “This new method of establishing payment for council tax is extremely efficient and has a number of sustainability benefits, both to residents and the council.
“Where as residents previously had to fill in a form in setting up a direct debit to pay their council tax, they can now make one simple telephone call, therefore fully eliminating the paper element of the sign-up process.
“This method is without doubt the lowest cost collection method both for us as a council and more importantly to the customer, and I would encourage anyone who has not yet set up a direct debit as a means of paying their council tax to make just one simple telephone call to us to set up the process.”
Once set up, the service is fully automated which means that payment for council tax is taken from the customer’s bank account on a set date each month.
To set up a direct debit for council tax payment call 01443 866 564.
You will need your bank account number, branch sort code and bank address to allow the council to set up the direct debit promptly.
The service is available during office hours: Monday to Thursday 8.30am to 5pm and Friday 8.30am to 4.30pm.
