Caerphilly MP Wayne David has been appointed the Labour Party’s Shadow Minister for Europe by leader Ed Miliband after he missed out on a post in the Shadow Cabinet.
Mr David, who was Under Secretary of State for Wales in the previous government, said: “I’m extremely pleased. I consider it a great honour and also an opportunity to fight hard to make sure Welsh voices are heard loud and clear around the Cabinet table and also in Brussels.”
He will be new Shadow Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper’s number two and will attend Cabinet meetings that involve European issues.
Under Labour Party rules, its Shadow Cabinet is elected by party members. Mr David had put himself in the running but missed out on a place after gaining 30 votes.
