A 55-year-old woman was dragged into an alley by four youths and robbed of her handbag, shopping bag and purse.
The robbery happened on Monday January 16 at around 8.10pm as the woman walked down Lawrence Street. The four youths started by shouting abuse at the woman before they grabbed her.
She managed to escape and her bags and purse were later recovered. ABout £100 cash, a Lloyds TSB bank card, and some personal items were missing.
Police have said the woman suffered no injuries but was left very shaken. She was taken to University Wales Hospital, Cardiff as a precautionary measure.
The four youths are described as being male and of slim build.
Three were wearing dark-coloured hooded tops. One is described as being approximately 5ft 6in tall, the other slightly shorter and the third approximately 5ft 2in tall. The fourth mugger is described as being 5ft 2in tall and was wearing a light grey or cream coloured hooded top.
Anyone with any information about the mugging should contact Gwent Police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
Another sign of the lawlessness which abounds on the darker side of the streets of Caerphilly.
Recently this publication told us about a youth being almost beaten to death in the Castle Grounds some months ago.
It is now a fact that the more police personnel on the streets the less crime is committed, when will someone realise that the police should take away the police cars that run around the valley, nothing wrong with having a response vehicle or two available, but use them for just that, not conveying highly trained police officers from police station to police station, walk the streets, and re-engage with the citizens of this and other towns in the valley and then watch crime plummet. Take away the cars!!!!
And what would happen to these criminals should the inept police catch them, not alot. Slap on the wrist.
