Update: Police keen to speak to person in area at time of first fire
Police are investigating the possibility that an arson attack which hospitalised two people could be linked to a second fire.
A man and a woman escaped the first arson attack by jumping from a first floor window.
The fire broke out in the early hours of Sunday January 29 at a flat on Heol Aneurin Bevan in Rhymney. It happened at approximately 4.30am.
Both are currently in hospital and are suffering from smoke inhalation and serious back injuries but are not in a life threatening condition.
Another fire happened at a house on Goshen Street. It extinguished itself but caused damage to the front door of the house.
It was discovered on the morning of Sunday January 29 and officers are carrying out enquiries to find out when it started. There was one man in the house at the time but he was not injured.
Both fires are being treated as arson and officers are keeping an open mind as to whether they are linked or not at this stage as they continue their enquiries to establish the full circumstances.
Anyone with information should contact Gwent Police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
