Train passengers in South East Wales are being given the opportunity to have their say on how the network is policed.
Officers from British Transport Police (BTP) are holding a series of drop-in surgeries this week to find out what issues are affecting rail users in the region.
The surgeries provide an opportunity for passengers, rail staff and local residents to speak to a member of the Neighbourhood Policing Team (NPT) about concerns and priorities for policing the railway.
Inspector Gary Ash, who is in charge of BTP’s Welsh Neighbourhood Policing Teams, said: “The meeting is a great opportunity for people to chat with us, their local officers, and talk about problems they might have experienced on – or away from – the railway.
“We are happy to discuss any issues which impact on people’s quality of life and will listen to any concerns or comments passengers may have about policing and crime on the railways or at the stations. We will also be providing information and advice on how to avoid becoming a victim of crime.
“Of course, there do not have to be any burning issues to discuss – if you just want to talk to us about our role and what BTP does then we will be more than happy to chat.”
In addition to the station surgeries, a Partnerships and Communities Together (Pact) meeting will also be held.
“We have established really strong links with communities throughout the area and have already played a part in dealing with several issues brought to our attention,” said Insp Ash.
“We want to build on this during the coming weeks and months, and the Pact meeting and station surgeries are an integral part of our commitment to engaging with rail users, staff and local residents.
“It is very important that people who regularly use trains and stations are able to have their say on how they are policed. We want to listen to their concerns and then do something about them. I hope people can take the time to come and meet us.”
Station surgeries are being held on the following dates:
- Tuesday, February 7: Cardiff Central station on the main concourse next to the Train Information Kiosk, between 4.30pm and 6.30pm. PC Allun Thomas and PCSO Beth Davies from the Cardiff NPT will be in attendance.
- Wednesday, February 8: Caerphilly station on platform 1 next to the booking office, between 4.30pm and 6.30pm. PCSOs Beth Davies and Kumar Hirani from the Cardiff NPT will be in attendance.
- The Pact meeting is due to take place at 10.30am on Tuesday, February 7, at British Transport Police, 3 Callaghan Square, Cardiff CF10 5BT.
