The Met Office has issued a “be aware” warning for icy conditions on Saturday (February 11).
The substantial snowfall it warned of on Wednesday did not materialise as conditions were milder than expected. Plummeting temperatures on Friday evening however mean there is a serious risk of ice forming on untreated roads.
The Met Office said: “As temperatures fall below freezing on Friday evening ice is expected to form on untreated surfaces across a wide area of England along with and eastern and northern Wales and last overnight into Saturday morning.
“The public should be aware that driving conditions could become hazardous as a result.”
The yellow “be aware” warning is valid from 5pm Friday until 12 noon Saturday.
