A cycle track washed away in a landslide has been repaired and reopened.
A section of National Cycle Route 47 in Ynysddu was damaged in 2008 but thanks to a £135,000 grant from sustainable transport charity Sustrans, the route has been resurfaced.
The path was blocked between Cwmfelinfach and Ynysddu after a landslide in August 2008, brought on by severe flooding.
Last November, essential drainage works to prevent damage to the cycleway in the event of flooding was agreed and then a bituminous surface was laid during January and February.
Councillor Don Cullen, Plaid Cymru member for Ynysddu ward, said: “A large section of Route 47 of the National Cycle Network was washed away in the 2008 landslide, which was caused by floodwater cascading down the mountainside. It took drainage pipes, trees and an embankment with it.
“The final stage of improving the track was completed with the laying of a bituminous surface to the unsurfaced section between Wyllie and Full Moon. It means that the Ynysddu ward has a cycleway which is second to none and fit for the 21st century.
“I’d like to thank Caerphilly Council, Sustrans and the contractors for all the hard work and planning that has gone into this project over the last three years. It has been a long time coming but definitely well worth the wait.
“With spring on its way, I’m sure cyclists will now enjoy the ride along this stretch of track. It is already being really well used.”
Route 47 travels through the Ynysddu ward along the line of the old railway track between Pontllanfraith and Crosskeys.
