Entries open for Shelter Cymru’s Junior Golf Championship at Bargoed

News | Richard Gurner | Published: 17:00, Tuesday March 6th, 2012.

Homelessness charity Shelter Cymru has said entries for its junior golf championship have been flooding in.

The championship is open to young golfers across Wales who are members of a golf club and have obtained a handicap. Players can either represent their school or golf club.

The qualifying round for teams from South Wales Valleys will be held at Bargoed Golf Club on Friday March 30

Last year more than 200 teams across Wales took part, raising £16,500 for Shelter Cymru.

The event is supported by the Golf Union of Wales through Golf Development Wales and is backed by European Tour and World Cup winner Bradley Dredge. Prizes are kindly provided by leading golf supplier Srixon Cleveland Golf.

Qualifying rounds are taking place all over Wales with the best teams and top fundraisers invited to the final at Borth and Ynyslas Golf Club at the end of May.

Event organiser Andrew Jones said: “We are delighted to being able to hold a qualifying round at Bargoed this year. The club has been regular supporters of the event for a considerable time and are delighted that they are now able to host a qualifying round.”

Graham Harris, secretary at Bargoed Golf Club, said: “Bargoed is synonymous with Bradley Dredge and we are delighted to help with the development of the next generation of potential Welsh Tour players.”
