An engineering graduate from the University of Glamorgan has secured a job with one of the top 50 graduate development companies in the UK.
Michael Weller, 27, a BEng Electrical and Electronic Engineering graduate from Caerphilly, beat almost 1,800 other applicants to secure his role as a graduate engineer with infrastructure services company Amey.
After a rigorous selection process, including both group and one-on-one interviews, Michael was accepted onto Amey’s graduate Pathways Programme.
Michael was one of 70 hires, and the only electrical appointment out of 1,800 applications.
Martin Nicholds, HR director for Amey said: “At Amey we place a great deal of emphasis on recruiting and retaining graduate talent. With top skills in demand in the engineering industry, it is very important that we continue to attract the highest calibre people like Michael to our business and support their career development through structured programmes and further training.”
Amey, which was one of only 50 companies selected for TheJobCrowd’s 2011 ‘Top Companies For Graduates To Work For’, inspect and assess the state of the nation’s railways, repair, and enhance key areas of the UK’s road and rail network and maintain key public buildings and spaces such as airports, schools, parks and offices.
Michael said: “The University has a prestigious engineering department and my degree has moulded me from a young lad who showed an interest in physics and electronics, into a professional engineer with very bright prospects. I could not have been successful without the encouragement and support of teaching staff at Glamorgan. I can now proudly say that I am employed by a top graduate development company.”
Less news more a personal celebration perhaps. Guess he must know someone working at the observer.
