Five new social new enterprises in Caerphilly County Borough have been given grants totalling £358,000.

The money, from the Community Economic Development (CED) fund, has created 14 new jobs and will fund the posts over the next three years.

The social enterprises supported are:

  • Rainbow Community Enterprise – a cycle repair and cycle safety training company based in Rhymney.
  • Ann’s Kitchen – a café and sandwich delivery service based in Graig-Y-Rhacca and delivering home-cooked locally-sourced food to both the work place and corporate events.
  • Samye Foundation Wales – provides mindfulness for corporate companies and the community working to reduce stress related illnesses.
  • Playworks – a childcare provision provider based in Caerphilly providing after school child care in the Caerphilly Borough.
  • Green Cap – will be providing employment and work experience for disabled and socially challenged individuals through the refurbishment, Re-upholstery and clearances of various commercial sector furnishings.

A Social Enterprise is a “business or service with primarily social objectives whose surpluses are principally reinvested for that purpose in the community rather than being driven by the need to maximise profit for shareholders and owners.

The grants awarded have helped create 14 new jobs and supported the purchase of capital equipment to help the enterprises set up and become sustainable.
