The Welsh Government has announced the new Chief Medical Officer for Wales.
Dr Ruth Hussey OBE will succeed Dr Tony Jewell when he retires from the role later this year.
Dr Hussey was born in North Wales, where she lived until she went to university. She has been Regional Director of Public Health, NHS North West since 2006 and is currently seconded to the Public Health England Transition Team at the Department of Health where she is leading the transition of public health to local government.
Previous posts have included director of health strategy/medical director at Cheshire and Merseyside Strategic Health Authority and acting director of public health/medical Director at Greater Manchester Strategic Health Authority.
Dr Hussey, whose early clinical training took place in hospitals and general practice, has also held the posts of director of public health for Liverpool and senior lecturer in public health at Liverpool University.
She said: “I am honoured to be appointed as Chief Medical Officer for Wales. Being particularly interested in inequalities in health and the importance of involving communities in decisions about their own health and care, I look forward to continuing the excellent work of Dr Tony Jewell and his team in improving health and well-being for the people of Wales.
“On a personal level, I am very much looking forward to returning to Wales, and improving my Welsh.”
It is anticipated that Dr Hussey will start in September following the retirement of Dr Jewell.
Health Minister Lesley Griffiths said: “I am delighted we have found someone of Dr Hussey’s calibre to provide clinical advice to the Welsh Government on a range of health and healthcare matters. I’m sure Dr Hussey will be a worthy successor to Dr Jewell and look forward to welcoming her to the team later this year.”
The Chief Medical Officer provides independent professional advice and guidance to the Welsh Government on health and healthcare matters.
The Labour Assembly Government have recently denied, a Plaid Cymru accusation,(questions) that the Health Service in Wales is to undergo a major reorganisation on the lines of following where England leads.
The new Labour appointed Chief Medical Officer for Wales. Dr Ruth Hussey OBE has a wealth of experiences working in the English Nation Health System, and, in fact was a member of the grand sounding, "Public Health England transition team" established to ensure that the Department of Health involves key partners throughout the process of developing and finalising policy for the NEW (rejected by all health professionals in ENGLAND) PUBLIC HEALTH POLICIES IN THE NHS.
Could it be?, just Could it be? the Dr Ruth has been appointed in Wales because of her complicit professional approval of the Obnoxious reorganisation of the NHS IN ENGLAND, and, as a safe pair of hands in readiness for a major reorganisation of Welsh Health Service??????. Who Knows???? anyone?????.
