New name for CRI Caerphilly and Blaenau Gwent Young Persons’ Substance Misuse Service

News | Richard Gurner | Published: 17:00, Thursday May 3rd, 2012.

DAYS (Drug and Alcohol Youth Support) has been unveiled as the new name for a young persons’ substance misuse service running in Caerphilly County Borough.

The service, formally known as CRI Caerphilly and Blaenau Gwent Young Persons’ Substance Misuse Service, provides an outreach support service for children and young people aged between ten and 18 years.

It helps tackle issues of substance misuse and offering a single point of contact to direct young people to local services which can help them address their individual needs.

Young people already involved with the service took on the task of coming up with a brand new name and chose DAYS.

Sandra Viles, Team Leader for DAYS said: “We are delighted to make this announcement and we are thrilled with the final choice for our new name.

“Communicating with young people is a key part of our work whether it is enabling young people to open up about their substance misuse and ask questions or giving them the information and education they need to lead healthy and happy lives- so we are really pleased that we have been able to work with them in finding a new name.

“We’d like to thank everyone who came up with suggestions and we look forward to continuing our work across Caerphilly and Blaenau Gwent under the DAYS banner.”

DAYS is also set to launch its new outreach bus and will be linking in with youth groups and young people who may benefit from the service.

If you or someone you know is aged between ten and 18 and is concerned about substance misuse please contact DAYS on freephone 0808 168 7176.
