Update: Maesycwmmer golf course bird reunited with owner
It’s usual to expect the odd birdie or albatross, but golfers were stunned by the sight of an emu walking on the course at Bryn Meadows Golf Hotel and Spa.
The RSPCA said the bird was first spotted on the course in Maesycwmmer, near Blackwood , on Sunday and has yet to be caught. People have also been seen feeding it sandwiches.
RSPCA officer Sophie Daniels said: “I was taken out in a golf buggy and I could hardly believe my eyes when I saw the emu.
“The bird came over to feed from me but as soon as I tried to capture her, she kicked so hard I had to let her go. We have advised Animal Health and the local authority and hope that the emu will be caught later today.”
The emu is native to Australia and second only in size to the ostrich.
If anyone has any information about this incident, they are urged to contact the RSPCA cruelty and information line on 0300 1234 999. Calls will be treated in confidence.
That looks more like a rhea, not an emu.
