Up to 150 new jobs are to be created in Caerphilly with IT firm Attenda opening new offices.

The company, headquartered in Staines, near London, officially opened the offices on Caerphilly Business Park on Wednesday with Welsh Business Minister Edwina Hart.

The move has been supported with a financial package worth £1.98 million from the Welsh Government. The funding helped bring the jobs to Wales against strong competition from the Czech Republic.

Ms Hart said: “Attenda operates in one of our key priority sectors, which have been identified as having high growth potential, so this investment is a very welcome addition to the ICT sector in Wales.

“Not only will Attenda create up to 150 high quality jobs but the company is committed to utilising the local supply chain which will bring added benefits to the local economy.

“This is a good example of a company that had a number of alternative locations to consider for their expansion but chose Wales because of the availability of a workforce with the relevant skills and a business environment where they can flourish.”

The 150 Caerphilly jobs will be entirely new and follows sustained growth by Attenda.

The first of the new staff are already working from the offices in Britannia House on Caerphilly Business Park, off Van Road. Recruitment will continue over the next three years.

Further work is expected to begin early next year on building bespoke offices of between 12,000 and 15,000sq ft on another plot at the same business park which will house up to 150 people in three years’ time.

Simon Downing, Attenda’s non-executive chairman, said: “The most critical driver for choosing Wales for the second office location is the availability of staff with the required skill levels and qualifications.

“It is also essential that we can seamlessly integrate the expansion of our operation into Wales, without impacting on the existing business.”

The latest jobs boost follows the announcement of DS Smith Recycling to locate its service centre at the same business park and create up to 100 new jobs.
