Residents’ views are being sought on how Caerphilly County Borough Council deals with flooding.
Although flooding arising from rivers is the responsibility of Environment Agency Wales, the council still needs to develop a local Flood Risk Management Strategy with the agency.
The local Flood Risk Management Strategy will give a clear vision for how flood risks will be dealt with in Caerphilly County Borough.
The strategy will include:
Information on local flood risk in Caerphilly County Borough, highlighting where problems have already occurred and current levels of flood risk.
Clarification of which organisation is responsible for what in relation to the prevention and management of flooding.
Information on the measures that will be undertaken to reduce flood risk.
Clarification of how work is prioritised.
Measures that communities can undertake to improve flood resilience, as it is not possible to stop all flooding.
For more information visit www.caerphilly.gov.uk to complete the Local Flood Risk Management Strategy survey. The closing date for responses is August 25 2012.
Paper copies are available by calling 01495 235 797 and should be returned to Michelle Johnson, Caerphilly County Borough Council, Highway Operations Group, Highway House, Penmaen Road, Pontllanfraith, NP12 2DY.
Noticed a stretch of road in the vicinity of Waterloo Machen, being repaired of potholes and surface problems last year. Heavy rains and moderately heavy lane traffic has obliterated any chance of long term success, and if the situation continues, I see the whole surface becoming unusable in the near future. On closer observation, the one side of the lane abuts on a field in which there is a permanent pond, and at times this overflows and floods the lane. For the last three weeks, this has been a persistent problem, and I notice today that the pond is at a higher level than the lane surface. This I would assume to be the result of inadequate drainage, one of the major factors involved in what could be significant flooding. (Not necessarily at that exact spot) What I would like addressed is the situation of responsibility for drainage maintenance in highlighted rural areas, and recognition of the risks of failing drainage on long term road surface damage
