A local football team has scooped success at an international football tournament in Holland.

Fleur De Lys AFC’s under 15’s boys’ team won all five games without conceding a single goal at the tournament in the Dutch city of Nijkerk, playing against a selection of local Dutch Teams. The tournament was part of a tour of Holland by the team, who were representing the Islwyn Junior League.

The team stepped out in a brand new kit at the tournament thanks to sponsorship from local company Axiom Manufacturing Services in Newbridge.

Ryland Price, manager and chairman of Fleur De Lys AFC said: “We’re really proud of the lads and their achievement in Nijkerk. We had lots of comment from the other teams on how well presented our boys were and how fantastic the kit looked. The boys also behaved impeccably and where a credit to the club, their parents and themselves. We’re all really appreciative of the support Axiom has given us and are looking forward to next season.”

Thomas Rees, club captain, 15 years old, added: “The new kit looks great. We all looked the part, so all we had to do is make sure our play matched, which hopefully we did.”

Axiom, the main sponsor of the youth team, is a contract manufacturer in the medical, security, defence and aerospace and industrial markets.

David Davies, managing director at Axiom, said: “We strongly believe in nurturing talent from a young age, and the team’s result from their tour of Holland proves that they’ve got it in abundance.”
