A computing graduate from Blackwood has secured his first job through a university scheme designed to foster the next generation of programmers.
Just weeks after graduating from the University of Glamorgan, 26 year-old Sean Terence Robinson, has been employed by LexAble as a Lead Software Engineer.
Sean, who studied BSc (Hons) Computer Games Development at Glamorgan, took advantage of the opportunities offered by Software Alliance Wales (SAW) throughout his degree.
Software Alliance Wales (SAW) is a £13m collaborative ICT project between the universities of Glamorgan, Aberystwyth, Bangor, Swansea and Trinity Saint David.
The aim of the SAW project is to support innovation and growth in the ICT and software sector in Wales.
Sean said: “Thanks largely to the experience gained over the course of my degree, and my project with SAW, I was able to secure a position at a company that SAW had links with.
“Working for LexAble Ltd has been one joy after another. I would not be working at this moment if SAW had not offered so many rich opportunities. I would strongly encourage students to research the wonderful work done by Software Alliance Wales.”
Founded in 2007 and based in Cardiff, LexAble develops software to help people with dyslexia in school, university and the workplace.
Neil Cottrell, Director of LexAble said: “During his SAW placement, Sean had demonstrated both the ability and the drive to achieve the high standard of results required for a commercial project.
“He came across as having a commercial awareness and professional maturity that you would not expect a fresh graduate to have. This was attractive for us because we give our staff responsibility early on, and look to employ those people who will thrive in that situation.”
Karin Rees, the University of Glamorgan’s Academic Liaison Officer for Software Alliance Wales, said: “We are committed to producing work-ready computing graduates. To do this we need to expose our computing students to real-life experiences with companies.
“Our final year computing students work with businesses to investigate, design and implement a prototype solution which may have proved impossible with current company resources. The only cost to the business is time to liaise with the student.”
