Gwent Police has welcomed five new Special Constables into service in Caerphilly County Borough.

The volunteer police officers, who have the same powers as full-time police officers, will be working in the Bargoed, Bedwas, Blackwood, Risca and Ystrad Mynach areas.

They include a supermarket worker, a carer and a customer service manager.

The new Special Constables are:

  • SC Dewi Roberts, 22-years-old, from Bargoed (stationed at Blackwood) currently employed by Asda.
  • SC Claire Miller, 20-years-old, from Cardiff (stationed at Bedwas) currently a Customer Service Manager in Tesco Head Office.
  • SC Jon Graham, 20-years-old, from Caerphilly (stationed at Bargoed) currently a Sales assistant with Orange.
  • SC Kylie Hall, 22-years-old, from Oakdale (stationed at Risca) currently a carer in a residential home.
  • SC Matthew Pryce, 23 years old, from Caerphilly (to be stationed at Ystrad Mynach) currently a Sales Consultant in retail.

Christine Smith, Special Inspector for Caerphilly, said: “Members of the Special Constabulary are just that – special people who want to put something back into the communities where they live and work.

“Special Constables come from a variety of backgrounds including carers, students, engineers, shop assistants, and accountants, they may be bringing up a family, between jobs or retired. We are delighted to be increasing our numbers in the Caerphilly Local Policing Unit and hope it will encourage others to join.”
