A £400,000 boost for community focused projects has been given the green light by councillors.
At a meeting last week, Caerphilly County Borough’s cabinet agreed the funding which will be spent on projects to improve areasranging from litter bins to the graffiti removal vehicle.
Cllr Rob Gough, cabinet member for public protection, engineering and transport said: “This money will help make the county borough a more attractive place for residents and visitors. “
Councillors also agreed to cease the school library service. From December 2011, present school library service stock will be transferred to Bargoed and Risca.
Cllr Phil Bevan, cabinet member for education, leisure and lifelong learning said: “In the main, everyone involved saw this as a better use of our resources.”
How many members of the public / parents actually know about the cut of the school library service, when and where did the council do any public consultation on this?
This will not be a better use resources when schools have to take time out of the class room to travel to the library – in fact it will cost the individual schools more money in travel and out of class time, not to mention the impact on the carbon footprint of the school. Each school that wants to make use of these resources will now have to travel both ways to utilise such vital resources for our children's education.
I also believe the comment from Cllr Bevan to be inaccurate, "In the main, everyone involved saw this as a better use of resources", is he speaking on behalf of the Plaid councillors involved in this decision, please could Cllr Bevan make it clear that it was the Plaid councillors that saw this as better use of resources, when in fact it is an attack on the children of Caerffili's education
so let me get this right it is a better use of our resorses to to make the town look a little better than to invest in the develiping mind of our children
Cllr Phil Bevan, cabinet member for education, leisure and lifelong learning said: “In the main, everyone involved saw this as a better use of our resources".
But, as the acknowledged senior member of the Borough in respect to Education, leisure, and lifelong learning, Did he, and does he, agree that "this is a better use of resources"?
We will for ever wonder no doubt.
