Police in Blackwood have issued their second warning in seven months to motorists over illegal parking.
Gwent Police has said it is about to begin another “zero tolerance” crackdown on the problem after further complaints. The force’s last crackdown took place in March this year.
Neighbourhood Policing Team Inspector for Blackwood Mark Smith said: “Two issues are being brought to my attention, firstly, the entrance to the town from the library end and secondly, the entrance to Wesley Road in particular outside Argos, which is causing a problem for motorists and pedestrians.
“With the festive period on its way, I want to tackle this situation head on. We have to ensure that all residents and visitors to the town are treated in a fair and proportionate manner. By enforcing a zero tolerance approach we hope we are sending a message that abuse of the traffic laws in the area will not be tolerated.”
Cllr Tom Williams, cabinet member for highways, transportation and engineering, said: “While it is only an inconsiderate minority who are restricting access by parking illegally in the town centre, it is causing undue congestion nonetheless. I am pleased that action is being taken in this way to address the situation, so that we can help ensure that Blackwood town centre is accessible for all.”
