Residents and a local councillor recently joined forces with Caerphilly County Borough Council’s cleaning team to spruce up a sorry-looking road near Ynysddu.
Cllr Jan Jones and the group cleaned up a road leading from Gelligroes Mill towards Ynysddu.
The community clean up was the first of 2013 and comes ahead of Caerphilly County Borough Council’s annual Big Spring Clean, a campaign to encourage everyone to do their bit in improving the look and feel of our county borough.
Starting at Gelligroes Mill and progressing along Pontgam Road towards Ynysddu, the group filled over 50 bags with litter, household waste, tyres, car parts and household furniture items. In total over a tonne of waste was collected and the embankments of the Sirhowy River were cleared.
Cllr Dave Poole, cabinet member for community and leisure services, said: “The group of residents from this locality can be very proud of their effort and provide an excellent example for others to follow. In trying conditions the group collected over a tonne of waste from an area that boasts some wonderful countryside and wildlife. Following their hard work and determination the area looks much more attractive and welcoming.”
The Big Spring Clean campaign will commence this March and will continue to run through April and May.
