Two up-and-coming boxers from Caerphilly have tasted success at their first Welsh Championships.

Mark Price, 20, and Robbie Evans, 21, train at Arthur’s Gym in Rhydfelin, which was opened in February 2012 by Commonwealth Gold Medal boxer Jamie Arthur.

Price won his 81kg title both by stoppage and in the final won by knocking out Luke Jones, an opponent who was previously undefeated in six contests. Robbie Evans won the 57kg title in two hard fought fights, showing an amazing display of bravery and hard work.

The boxers were among five fighters from the gym to enter the Welsh Championships and were joined by stablemate Carla Dwyer who won the 73kg title.

Chris Penduck and David Cavender, the other two boxers that the gym entered into the Welsh Championships, also gave a great effort and did the team proud.

Gym owner Jamie Arthur said: “I couldn’t be happier with the way the boxers performed, having five boxers enter and three boxers win was a dream come true and has made all the hard work worth it.”
