Blackwood Comprehensive School launches intergenerational club

News | Richard Gurner | Published: 16:33, Friday March 22nd, 2013.

Blackwood Comprehensive School has launched its intergenerational club with the help of the Mayor of Caerphilly County Borough Council.

Year 11 pupils and older members of the community came together recently for a lunch before the official launch, which involved a presentation from the students and a short film clip about what they have already achieved in their aim to connect with the community.

Following the student’s presentation Cllr Gaynor Oliver, Mayor of Caerphilly County Borough Council, officially opened the Intergenerational Club and joined the group to play for refreshments and a game of bingo.

Cllr Rhianon Passmore, cabinet member for education, said: “The Intergenerational Clubs are a fantastic way for our younger and older residents to interact and learn to understand each other. I am incredibly proud of the respect that the students show to the older members of their community, a quality that they can encourage in their peers.”

The club will run every two weeks on a Tuesday and will provide pupils and older members of the community with the chance to come together for lunch and activities.
