Gwent Police and Crime Commissioner Ian Johnston is due to launch his police and crime plan today at an event in Bargoed.
As part of his responsibilities, the Police and Crime Commissioner has to draft a plan to shape how policing priorities and criminal justice will be achieved across the Gwent force area.
The plan was officially approved by the Gwent Police and Crime Panel, which holds the Commissioner to account, in February.
Mr Johnston will be officially launching the plan at a Project Bernie event at Bargoed Rugby Club.
Project Bernie is aimed at raising awareness of the dangers of deliberately setting grass and mountain fires.
Mr Johnston said: “I’m delighted to launch my police and crime plan at this event, it provides a fantastic opportunity for agencies to work with young people to make Gwent safer.
“The police and crime plan enables residents of Gwent to see in greater detail what they can expect from me, their police commissioner, during my time in office. I have listened to concerns raised by residents and victims of crime in the many communities I have visited since I took up the post, and this is my chance to explain what I am going to do tackle those concerns.
“I pledge to put victims at the heart of everything I do, and ensure that people in Gwent are less affected by crime and anti social behaviour, protected from serious harm and provided with a police service that is value for money.
“I know how important it is for the people of Gwent to have an easily accessible police force, with officers in the right place at the right time. I have already taken steps to ensure these expectations are met by making funding available for 24 new police officers and you have my guarantee that I will continue to work to make our service the best it can be.”
The commissioner’s priorities in the plan include:
- Reducing victims of crime and increasing the number of offenders brought to justice
- Increasing public confidence in the police
- Reducing anti-social behaviour
- Reducing serious violent crime
- Increasing value for money

what is the fixation with bargoed?
The fixation with Bargoed is obvious.
Assembly Member for Caerphilly has his constituency office there.
The leader and most of the Caerphilly Council `Burghers` are drawn from there or north if it.
And, the huge amount of public money being spent there, or, planning to be spent there, is the stuff of making it a future capital town of the Borough. So, why not jump on a passing wagon and use the town as a `focal` point of public utterances by our Police and Crime Commissioner.
