Caerphilly County Borough Council is to provide pest control services to Blaenau Gwent residents under a new £300,000 five year agreement.
Blaenau Gwent County Borough Council will pay Caerphilly £60,000 a year for its environmental health team to respond to call outs.
Caerphilly Council has estimated it will receive an extra 1,800. A member of Blaenau Gwent’s team will transfer to Caerphilly to assist with the increased workload.
The move will save Blaenau Gwent £26,000 a year.
Cllr David Poole, Cabinet Member for Community and Leisure Services, said: “By developing voluntary collaborations such as this we can ensure the residents of both Caerphilly County Borough and Blaenau Gwent have access to improved services. The Caerphilly Pest Control Officers deliver a huge range of services including dog warden duties and education and contribute greatly to making our environment safe, healthy and clean.”
In addition to the pest control agreement, Caerphilly County Borough Council will also pursue other income generating opportunities.
These include pest control treatments at the Blaenau Gwent Civic Amenities sites, valued at £2,000 a year and contracts with Welsh Water to bait the Blaenau Gwent sewers valued at approximately £4,000 a year.
