Movie magic and space-age sparkle provided a dazzling mix of inspiration for Coleg Gwent’s latest student hair show.

Hairdressing and theatrical make-up students at Coleg Gwent’s Crosskeys campus created their own hair and make-up looks for a spectacular live show, which featured space-age designs in the body paint category, and hair styles inspired by well-known films.

Level three Hairdressing student Sophie Gill was awarded first place with zebra themed hair and make-up inspired by the film Madagascar, while theatrical make-up student Jody Amner scooped first place in the body painting category with a colourful ‘intergalactic angel’, her interpretation of the ‘out of this world’ brief.

A Charlie and the Chocolate Factory inspired style, complete with confectionery-laden hair and purple Willy Wonka suit, won hairdressing student Claire Hulett second place, whilst shooting stars and far flung planets ensureed fellow student Sophie Woodward secured second place.

Blue body paint, braided hair and contact lenses transformed hairdressing student Marija Habelasvili’s ‘Avatar’ model into a third place winning entry straight from the silver screen, whilst Theatrical Make-up student Alicia Thorne was awarded for her striking space-themed creation with planet hair piece.

Helen Lawless, head of school at the college’s Crosskeys campus, said: “This was a fantastic creative effort from a whole range of students.

“Everyone can be really proud of what they’ve achieved; it was a great event which enabled students to demonstrate their skill and talent.”
