A £46,000 piece of public art in Risca has been completed with the placing of a sculptured cuckoo.

The Risca Cuckoo, near the Tesco store on the Pontymister Industrial Estate, has been created by artist Sebastien Boyesen.

A beautiful column of galvanised leaves, the artwork was chosen by the public who were able to vote for their favourite out of several designs that were displayed in Risca Library and the Tesco store in September 2011.

The column of leaves is topped with the legendary symbol of Risca – the cuckoo, and the artwork commemorates the many elements of the town’s culture and history including the presence of Romans, the industrial past and the musical heritage.
