A national campaign to attract more foster carers has been launched.
The annual Foster Care Fortnight, run by the Fostering Network, aims to raise the profile of fostering and provide an opportunity for fostering services up and down the country to get out into their communities and speak to potential new foster carers.
Gwenda Thomas, Deputy Minister for Social Services, said: “Foster Care Fortnight is a time to celebrate the achievements of foster carers, and on behalf of Welsh Government I would like to express our deep and sincere thanks for doing such a tremendous job by providing a loving and stable environment for some of the most vulnerable children in our society.
“Foster carers are often overlooked, but this year’s campaign is innovative and unique. It places the spotlight on fostering by encouraging foster families to share pictures to showcase the positive difference that fostering can make and start the journey to becoming a foster carer.
“We need more people to come forward, people from all backgrounds are welcome – we all have something to offer. Each looked after child is different and we need carers with a diverse range of skills and experience to meet those needs.
“If you feel you can offer a child a home, then I urge you to contact your local council or independent fostering agency who will be able to start the registration process.”
