New Welsh flag for Pontllanfraith Comprehensive School

A new Welsh flag has been donated to Pontllanfraith Comprehensive School by defence manufacturer General Dynamics.

The flag was secured from the company, which has sites in Oakdale and Newbridge, by Islwyn MP Chris Evans.

Mr Evans was asked by the school’s Student Council for help in its last meeting before the summer holidays and contacted General Dynamics on their behalf.

The flag was recently presented to the school and is now flying high above its buildings.

Mr Evans said: “It is great to see local businesses and schools working together in Islwyn.

“I was delighted to join General Dynamics in raising a brand new flag above the school. It is great to see a dynamic local company like General Dynamics working closely with local schools.”

Dale Stolzenberg, from General Dynamics UK said: “We are always delighted to help our local community in any way that we can, whether that’s supporting local charities, or providing a new Welsh flag to fly proudly above Pontllanfraith Comprehensive School.”

  • Defence manufacturer General Dynamics last week confirmed that a number jobs will be lost at its Oakdale and Newbridge sites because of a restructure.
