A charity walk in Bedwas has raised £5,000 for the Lullaby Trust.

The one mile walk, and funday, was organised by Alison Hall and her family in memory of her son.

Alison’s baby boy Aaron died suddenly 24 years ago and together with her mother Kathy Dobson, sister Sue Heath and friend Babs Turner, she organised a sponsored Mile in Memory walk and balloon release as a tribute to her son.

TV star Ruth Jones, known to millions of viewers as Gavin and Stacey’s Nessa, was on hand to officially start the walk which took place on May 11 from the Greenfly, in Bedwas.

Alison’s mother Kathy told Caerphilly Observer that despite the weather, the community still came out to support the event.

She said: “Ruth was absolutely fantastic and so down to earth. She did the walk with my husband and signed lots of autographs.”

Kathy said well-wishers donated money as the walk went through the village with on woman throwing £15 out of her bedroom window.

The event was the second walk in as many years and a third is now being planned for 2014 with the hope of it becoming an annual event.
