Volunteers have helped clear four tonnes of litter from a cycle track in Abertridwr.

The large group included members of the Caerphilly branch of the Latter Day Saints and Caerphilly County Borough Council’s Tidy Towns Team.

Cllr Dave Poole, Cabinet Member for Community and Leisure Services, said: “This event has proved to be the most successful to date as part of our Big Spring Clean campaign, with well over 30 volunteers doing their bit to improve their community. Fortunately, spring seemed to have finally sprung which ensured everyone was more than happy to spend a morning improving the environment in which they live.

“To collect four tonnes of waste in just two hours is a massive achievement and will help to ensure this popular cycle track which runs along the Aber Valley is presentable when residents and visitors to the area make use of it.”

The event was organised as a part of the council’s Big Spring Clean campaign, which runs throughout March, April and May.
