Abertridwr community worker retires after 50 years’ service

A community worker who has dedicated 50 years of her life to helping local youngsters has retired.

Pat Evans, 65, started attending Aber Valley YMCA in 1962 after joining the netball team.

From there she progressed to training and coaching various netball teams over the decades and eventually became youth leader and general secretary.

Mrs Evans was presented with flowers and a watch to mark her retirement at a function last month to mark the work of Womens Auxiliary group who support the YMCA.

Mrs Evans was not expecting the surprise presentation and told Caerphilly Observer that if she had known about it beforehand, she would not have attended.

Despite retiring from her paid-for work with the YMCA, Mrs Evans said she will continue coaching youngsters netball adding: “I’d miss them.”
