40 jobs to go at drug company Norgine

Forty jobs are to go at pharmaceutical firm Norgine, Caerphilly Observer can reveal.

The company has confirmed that jobs at its manufacturing plant near Tir-y-Berth, Hengoed, will go because of upgrades to its machinery.

A company spokeswoman said: “We can confirm that Norgine has announced it will enter into a 30 day collective consultation period with employees in its Hengoed site in Wales on proposed changes to its manufacturing structure.

“We are proposing to restructure pockets of our manufacturing facilities following our technological investment in new production lines. This change is designed to help us remain an efficient and competitive organisation in a challenging environment.

“Like most companies, Norgine has to shape its organisation in response to business factors, but equally, where we see opportunities for improvement, we will increase investment to continue to add value to our business and deliver our leading medicines to patients.

“Such decisions are never taken lightly, but we are committed to ensuring we continue to evolve to maintain a robust and successful business.

“Our priority now is to work with all affected employees to minimise the impact of the proposed changes.
“The information presented to staff was confidential and we will not comment further.”

I’ve been made aware of the situation by Norgine and will be meeting them this month to discuss the implications.
