A nature reserve has celebrated its first anniversary
Aberbargoed Grasslands was launched one year ago on June 14, as Wales’ first National Nature Reserve in an urban setting.
Cllr Ken James, Cabinet Member for Regeneration, Planning and Sustainable Development, said: “It has been a successful year at Aberbargoed Grasslands. Since being designated as a National Nature Reserve the site has become increasingly popular with local residents and wildlife enthusiasts and local youngsters have been instrumental in improving the habitat for wildlife through the planting schemes they have taken part in.
“To top off a fantastic year of local people embracing this area of natural beauty, the discovery of Spongy Mazegill has truly confirmed the importance of Aberbargoed Grasslands as a site for nature and wildlife to flourish.”
